For the Designers:
Since 2003, Gen Art has showcased the best emerging fashion talent in high-profile group runway shows, fashion presentations and shopping events. Over the past 12 years, Gen Art has helped introduce some of the most exciting new talent in fashion in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago and San Francisco. Gen Art invites the best new design talent in womenswear, menswear and accessories to show their lines free of charge. Designers debuted by Gen Art include Zac Posen, Rebecca Taylor, Chaiken, Rodarte, Katy Rodriguez, Louis Verdad, Milly, Philip Lim (Development), Twinkle by Wenlan, Duckie Brown, Geren Ford, Hollywould, Sari Gueron & Shoshanna.
Gen Art is currently accepting applications for its 10th annual Styles 2008 International Design Competition and is soliciting entries from emerging talents in five categories:
Entries will be judged by a panel of industry insiders. The winners, to be chosen in mid-April, will receive a $5,000 prize, plus the opportunity to show their lines at a New York runway show. Applications and instructions are HERE, and entries are due by April 4.
For the Fashionista:
Drop the guilt at the door – On Thursday, March 27th In New York City, the City Opera Thrift Shop’s Spring Vintage Event holds their twice-a-year blowout where you can find gently used items from YSL amongst other familiar labels. These special gems range between $50 – $250, and best of all go to a great cause – the creation and design of costumes for the City Opera’s new productions.
