Ozwald Boateng at London Fashion Week

Written by . Posted in Blog.

Ozwald Boateng, Ghanaian-born Bespoke Menswear tailor closed the London Fashion Week event this year as he celebrated his 25th year in the fashion/tailoring business. Boateng featured 100 models 100 designs on the huge screens at The Odeon in Leicester Square, London. Each guest was treated to a mini bottle of Moet Champagne and a clear view of the big screen. It was his first time at the annual event.

Opening the show with an exclusive preview of his up and coming film, ‘A Man’s Story’ we were given a polished yet personal insight into the great man. Old pictures of his family, clips of the Brixton riots that set the backdrop to his childhood and modern day celebrities lauding his work all gave a sense of the scale of his personal achievements.

What seemed like a million models strutted the runway in creations ranging from elegant and traditionally cut grey and black suits, to a spectacular rainbow of azure blue, yellow and his signature, purple. – House of Fraser Blog

London Fashion Week {LFW} is one of the most anticipated fashion shows each year; it gives new and established designers a chance to showcase their work, giving them more exposure with the fashion industry at large.

One of our favourite African Fashion designers (BUNMI KOKO) had the opportunity to display her designs at LFW, she had her show along side Antonio Berardi.  BunmiKoko’s designs were very similar to the collection she launched at the Africa Fashion Week, SA .

Ituen Basi for Mouka

Last Monday, precisely 13:09:10 Mouka limited, Nigeria (Mattress Manufacturers)hosted a massive event to celebrate launch of their latest collection which they have called ‘Flora and Legend’. The event was held at the Abora-Mazonia Suite of Eko Hotel Lagos,Nigeria with Mouka lmited board of directors present.

The launch witnessed a lot of activities: Music Performances, Dancing acts to A MEGA FASHION SHOW (which was what caught our attention), fashion show was organised by one of our favourite African designers Ituen Basi, her collection told the story of mouka foam’s generation, using old mouka foam fabric from the 30s to present. The first set of designs to shake the ramp reflected Nigeria as colony, waiting for independence, the second set of designs were more youthful and colourful and the final set of models to showcase designs wore outfits that depicted the current situation in Nigeria (Independence) as well as the major tribes in Nigeria using the traditional accessories for a perfect execution of the fashion show and the story it tells.

LPM has created an eclectic showcase of modern style and innovative design in celebration of the start of a new year in fashion. Every vendor – from the contemporary and vintage retailers, to hair and beauty, shoes, accessories and of course, the new collections by Nigerian designers taking centre stage– have been cherry-picked by the LPM Team for your enjoyment! If you don’t believe us, this is what others had to say about it:

QUOTABLES ABOUT LPM’S SEPTEMBER ISSUE:

‘I’m expecting an amazing showcase of  all the new season’s trends, and I’ll also be doing a style story exclusively for LPM that will feature in several blogs after the event’  says  fashion stylist Bolaji Animashaun.

FAB Magazine’s Junior Fashion Editor, Menswear Terence Sambo also had this to say:

‘LPM has moved from being just a trade show or a Portobello-esque market -which was it’s original intent- to a movement. It continues to be the du jour market testing and introduction platform for new an already existing brands as well as a shopping mecca for all fashionistas and wannabe’s’

LPM Co-Owners, Wonu Odunsi and Isoken Ogiemwonyi bring their wealth of talent and experience to this special showcase, and are introducing a new feature this month – ‘LPM LOOT’. Adapted from the ‘haul’ video concept, we will be giving both our shoppers a chance to tell us about their LPM Experience, share their purchases and our vendors to talk about their products and services.  This section will be presented by FAB magazine Menswear editor Terence Sambo, celebrity model Nicole Chukwueke and Rhythm OAP Toke Makinwa.

Another exciting feature of this market is the exclusive style story that will be styled and shot on location at this LPM by Miss Nigeria Official Stylist Bolaji Animashaun. She’ll be styling a few models AND a few lucky members of the public!

Inspired by Africa: L.A.M.B Spring 2011 Collection

Written by . Posted in Blog.

L.A.M.B Spring Collection 2011

Former Pop Singer Gwen Stefani recently unveiled her L.A.M.B Spring 2011 collection on the ramps of New York fashion week and are we permitted to say that it looks to us like she’s had a bite of the ‘African prints are cool’ cake. L.A.M.B collection made the prints work combining bright prints with dark hues, Indigo blue, checked fabric, bustiers, frills, structured tailored trousers cropped tops and African Print Bags!! *sigh* We just fell in love with Gwen all over again!!!

It also looks to us that the fabrics used are synonymous to the fabrics mostly used by West Africans.
