Africa Inspired Closer at the LG Fashion Week, Canada

Written by . Posted in Blog, Events, Fashion Shows.

The recently concluded LG Fashion Week, Canada which was held between the 18th and 23rd of October with a number of designers showcasing their Spring 2011 collections. A number of local designers and a few designers from outside Canada. We love when Africa & Fashion are being mixed together for this very reason, the finale of this fashion show stole my attention as they had a big closer that featured all the designers that had showcased their work, making structural numbers/ designs out of African Fabric as a pointer towards a Fundraiser for the Stephen Lewis Foundation (the Dare to Wear Love gala fundraiser). Designs were made out of African Fabrics; some of the designers present were Wayne Clark, Linda Lundström, David Dixon and Izzy Camilleri.

Lace Inspired Pieces by MIU MIU (Fall 2010)

Written by . Posted in Blog.

This lilac number first caught my side eye due to the floral detailing on the neckline and then I pay more attention to detail and VOILA! it’s an appliqué lace dress by Miuccia Prada , as if that weren’t exciting enough,  I found out 2-3 pieces from the MiuMiu Fall 2010 collection embodied LACE. I am more than pleased that ‘being-inspired-by-Africa/Africa Fabric’ isn’t out of fashion instead it keeps getting better. See the lace pieces below;

The three Lace Numbers tell 3 different stories if you ask me and we are absolutely loving them!

Vintage Suitcases by African Duo

Written by . Posted in Blog.

#HauTe recently spotted images from a shoot for the AlexFolzi brand; the brand being run by Nigerian-born twins Fela and Fola Fagbure manufactures a range of products, one of which has caught our attention are the Vintage Inspired Suitcases.

These suitcases are a special breed and looking back in the fashion timeline they were mostly used dated back to the 30’s, these duo are on the highway to bringing this accessory-with-a-story back into fashion and If I might say so myself, they are doing a good job.

ALEX FOLZI is an elegant brand inspired by vintage looks, and the iconic design styles of the army, air force, navy, sailors and in general the Northern American/European couture.

Bono teams up with Louis Vuitton for Africa-Inspired Clothing Range

Written by . Posted in Blog.

Edun Pre-Fall Collection(2010)

U2 frontman Bono has announced that he is teaming up with designer fashion label Louis Vuitton to launch an African-themed clothing range. Bono and his wife set up their clothing range ‘Edun’ back in 2005, however the fashion firm went into debt last year, which led to bosses at LVMH, which owns couture house Louis Vuitton to buy a stake in the company to help boost profits.Bono has now teamed up with Louis Vuitton to create a new line of clothes and confirmed the details at the Africa Rising Art Exhibition in Paris on Wednesday 6th October, telling the crowd “We are excited to draw attention to the new mood in Africa which is positive and optimistic.” – M-is-for-Music

When we heard that this news was announced at the Africa Rising Art Exhibition, we’ve been nothing but over the moon for this news. Bono as we know supports Africa 100 % by  providing income to African people by creating products sourced from African materials. The U2 frontman, BONO  runs a fashion company called Edun along with his wife.
