Paris Fashion Week: Balmain Spring/Summer 2012 Collection
Olivier Rousteing‘s debut Spring/Summer Collection for Balmain unveiled during Paris Fashion Week (RTW) earlier on today since being named Creative Director at Balmain, following the demise of Christophe Decarnin as Creative Director.
Judging from Olivier’s Resort 2011 collection for Balmain, he appeared to have up to par knowledge of what the brand was about and how no one else does rock chic better than Balmain. Not straying away from boxy silhouettes and leather, guests at the Balmain show earlier today enjoyed a lot of embellished gold pearling, studded gold, gold appliqué, brocade + florals, denim, fringing and big buckled gold belts executed to exhume affluence.
The gold beading were so well patterned on each piece they were acclaimed to so that each of those pieces told a rich story and steering towards the not-your-average girl vibe, plain white cotton shirts and denim transformed Balmain-stically with the help of gold buttons, studs and appliqué respectively. Never have we seen leather look so tolerable for a Spring/Summer collection; tailored leather shirts, floor length buttoned leather skirts, tailored boyfriend leather pants, all paired with the perfect separate to give it the Balmain signature. Steady ornate patterns and high shoulders were fair enough but the florals on brocade + some studding came as a bit of a pleasant surprise for us. Hot pants, floor-length denim skirts, high-waisted boyfriend-style pants were also on the Balmain platter, we think Olivier might have tons of surprises up his sleeves for us at Balmain [Fingers crossed].
