Arise Magazine Fashion Week 2012 Awards

After all the pomp and pageantry of the 2012 Arise Magazine Fashion Week, the Award show brought the event to a close but opened doors for many-a-talented designer at the event. We have to admit it, Arise is making a good effort at putting Africa on the international fashion map, sponsoring 5 designers to show at the Mercedes Fashion Week in New York for Spring/Summer 2013 collections.

This year, no skill, talent or style went unnoticed with AMFW’s finale including the much-anticipated Arise Magazine Fashion Week Award 2012 commending the skills of participants particularly those that shone through in the midst of 77 designers and tons of models. Supermodel Alek Wek presented 13 of the 77 participating designers with Lalique and Moët & Chandon awards:

Style Icon of the Year: Oluchi Onweagba-Orlandi

Male Model of the Year: Dudley O’Shaughnessy

Female Model of the Year: Georgie Badiel

Menswear Designer of the Year: PETROU\MAN

Womenswear Designer of the Year: Tsemaye Binitie

Fashion Brand of the Year: Temple Muse

Innovative Designer(s) of the Year: Odio Mimonet | David David

Emerging Designer of the Year: Loza Maléombho

Young Designer of the Year: LaQuan Smith

Major honours went to Ozwald Boateng (UK) for the Lifetime Achievement Award, whilst South African designer Klûk CGDT and Nigerian designer Maki Oh were joint winners in the Designer of The Year Award category.

The organisers also revealed its FIVE designers who will showcase for ARISE during its annual gala extravaganza this September at the Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week 2012.

In addition, ARISE also announced five models – Alvin, Sebastian, Oluwatoyin, Anthony (female) and Amade will also be joining the designers in New York.
