Zimbabwe Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2013 [Day 1,Trio 1]: Intisar McAdam, Naked Ape & Alpharose
Zimbabwe Fashion Week was founded by Priscilla Chigariro in October 2009. It’s main purpose is to create a platform for Zimbabwean Designers to showcase their creations as well as to help rekindle what was once a thriving textile and fashion industry. The 2012 edition of this annual event themed Breaking Barriers kicked off on the 30th of August with a reception cocktail, followed by 6 designers unveiling their spring/summer collections; starting with Intisar McAdam and rounding off the evening with Countess K.
Intisar McAdam:
Quite a number of separates at Intisar’s show, incorporating tribal prints, lace, silk and chiffon. No ground-breaking observed here – rather than that, the designer showed off her simplicity in tailoring – tailored city shorts, tube dresses, cowl neck, mini body con skirts, fringed leggings and short sleeved tribal print jackets.
Collection:
Naked Ape by Shaldon Kopman:
Warm tones observed at Naked Ape with the exception of two red pieces; tailored jackets, blazers and coats – one of the jackets with huge semblance to a military one owing to the multiple buttons. While we’re not too certain about the pieces with plunging necklines, the waistcoats and tailored cropped trousers were a tasteful addition to the collection. Casual tees and men shorts also made an appearance on the runway at Naked Ape.
Collection:
Alpharose by Yvonne Watadza:
The choice of colors at Alpharose gave us all sorts of excitement to deal with; silk, taffeta and raw cotton in gem and summery tones. Making a huge deal of swing and form-fitting dresses, there was one for every kind of woman – The Demure, The Summer Loving, The Working Woman and of course The Party Animal. Separates also had their spotlight on the runway- sticking to the color palette, the designer introduced us to feminine trouser suits, pussy bow blouses and tailored pants as well as structured blouses paired with mini skirts. The final bit of the collection was dedicated to red-carpet worthy/cocktail ready pieces.
