New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2013 [Day 1]: BCBG Max Azria.

Having been inspired by the black and white photography of Helmut Newton, fusing that with a femme fetale  persona resulting in a assemblage that focused on lace panels, harnesses, fluid pieces{as per usual} and digitized prints on dresses and jumpsuits. Starting off with monochrome pieces lacking feminine body accentuation, Max Azria was sure to substantiate the latter with harnesses for bodice support as well as lace and leather paneling. Digitized prints met oversize pockets, elongated fluid pieces – owing their elongated lengths to lace bottom halves. While we were not too keen on the denim bit of the collection, the neutrals brought a sense of romance to the runway; silk overlaid with tulle, dusty pink leather skirt paired with ivory slouchy blazer, pastel-winning lavender, whites and blacks. A further focus on leather and fluidity felt more compelling as regards the direction the designer was heading the collection; high-waist  cropped leather pants, 50s crepe black dress with plunging neckline, power shoulders and a lace bandeau as undergarment.

While it wasn’t a workwear-worthy piece, BCBGMaxAzria’s S/S 13 collection availed pieces that evoked sensuality, fragility and minimalism.
