African Fashion Designers showing at London Fashion Week’s F/W 2013 [FEB. 15 -19, 2013]
…and just like that! New York Fashion Week F/W 2013 has wrapped up and given way for the Brits! As the story goes, it’s off to London Fashion Week, and boy! are we excited. The British Council & British Fashion Council are for the 2ND time hosting the International Fashion Showcase (IFS), which sees embassies partner up with their fashion councils to provide a platform for talent from their respective countries, including Tanzania. This year, aside from the regular PPQ & Co. We have a new brand we are looking forward to called Josh & Nicol.
Here’s the lineup for the African Fashion brands that will be showing during London Fashion Week F/W 2013.
IFS Tanzania Showroom: Thursday 14th – 23 of February. 10.00 – 19.00. Tanzania High Commission, 3 Stratford Place, London, W1C 1AS
Through a meticulously crafted installation, Swahili Flavour will showcase the works of four talented emerging Tanzanian designers. Displays of garments and jewellery will be suspended from the ceiling and immaculately-styled black mannequins will line the room while flat screen televisions display images of beautifully dressed Swahili women from 1950s colonial Zanzibar/Tanganyika.
Photography of the designers’ work will adorn the walls of the breath-taking venue – the ballroom at the Tanzanian embassy. This exhibition is sure to be a visual feast of prints, textures and luxurious colour
Lagos Fashion & Design Week presents Woven Threads. Friday, 15th – 20th February. 11AM – 6PM. Kingly Court, off Carnaby Street, London W1B 5PJ
An exhibition connecting the dots between the art of textile craftsmanship in Nigeria and the Nigerian Fashion Industry’s emerging talent featuring Designers; Bridget Awosika, Ejiro Amos Tafiri, Kola Kuddus, Meena, Orange Culture, Wisdom Franklyn, 83 & 80.
