Arise Magazine Fashion Week 2012 [Day 4,Trio 1]: Christie Brown, Phunk Afrique & Buki Akib
Saturday, March 10th, 2012Christie Brown
Christie Christie Christie, you had me at your last show and you’ve still got me. A great winter colour palette with browns, teal, navy and royal purple working deliciously together. Look closely for the mass of velvet and notice the Satin, two fabrics working very well together this season. Sheers are still at the top of the trend list and Brown proves this so. Really loving the splashes of wax print to decorate the collection adding further consistancy. Brown not only jumps on the trend of the decorated side panel for the trouser leg witnessed by Calvin Klein and Balenciaga at this years F/W shows, but maintains her high necked attire throughout. And you know I love my high necks.
Watch Christie Brown Backstage at Arise Magazine Fashion Week 2012 below, just before her runway debut:
Phunk Afrique
Lots of lustre and length. Phunk Afrique blends a western idea of “tribal print” (zebra prints) and traditional African fabrics together which I cant say that I have seen before. Though I’m usually not a fan of animal print I don’t mind her use of yellow and black for this collection and admire her sleek silhouettes. This concept of east verse West has potential, however the combination of colour and fabric didn’t have the kick it was intended to have. The collection was inconsistent at times, although one can notice the high neck trends, lustrous fabrics and oversized sleeves also witnessed in other designer assemblages so far.
Buki Akib
Buki! We like! Not for every male out there of course, but definitely for the brave hearted who don’t mind showing a little nipple in the Winter months. Yes there was netting and loose latex like fabrics in violet and silver (not the best colour choice for men, but hey – who doesn’t like a little risque). I felt I was taken back to the 1990′s grunge theme and then brought back to the future with pieces such as the matching poncho and Harem pants and then the cropped black leather trousers paired against the African print oversized vest. The colour palette was mainly restricted to black, white, and brown – either in solo form or a combination of all three. Very different… very interesting.

HauTe TV: Samantha Cole’s A/W 2011 Collection – London Fashion Week
Thursday, February 24th, 2011A collection filled with character and attitude, Samantha Cole presented her alternative yet contemporary art of designing. Being a label not known for playing with colours, the collection kept its usual theme of neutral colours but with a lot of attention to detail. The designer explores a more minimalist style as compared to her previous collections but still focuses on emphasizing beautiful necklines and womanly curves. The blend of fabrics like leather and velvet fabrics with other fabrics very visibly accentuates the boldness of the label and its philosophy of redefining trends and concepts “to reproduce silhouettes that acknowledge the past, have a sense of the future and recognise that there are no limits or boundaries to fashion, just ourselves.”
-Enjoy!

With blue as the new black, the designer was able to incorporate this trend while maintaining her signature style of subliminally structured yet feminine and wearable fashion. Enjoy!
