Samata Angel is a British award- winning fashion entrepreneur, author, public speaker and designer. Born and raised in Cambridge her womenswear clothing label Samata (formerly Samata’s Muse) specialises in high fashion pieces and has been worn by the likes of Dawn Angeliqué Richard and Jennifer Lopez with press to date including Vogue, Fashion United, Look Magazine (UK), Pride Magazine, ITN, London Lite, Fashion Africa and Fashion Capital.
She made history to become the first British female to show during the Nolcha Fashion Week in New York. She has since gone on to receive industry awards and nominations such as Cosmopolitan Magazine’s Future Fashion Star of 2008 and Specsavers EveryWoman in Retail Inspiration of the Year 2009, winning Hollywood design contest Red Carpet Green Dress in 2011.
During 2007, Samata was made Fashion Editor of The Talent Magazine, putting together an issue focusing on key industry issues affecting models, fashion designers and other industry creatives. In particular, her work on this issue impacted teen and male models. An avid fashion-lover Samata Angel regularly attends global fashion weeks and works as a freelance writer for Vogue UK and leading British fashion website, Fashion Capital. In addition to guest lecturing on ‘Fashion Enterprise’ for the Arts Council of Great Britain and at the London College of Fashion, Samata works a as public speaker and and has spoken at a number of events including at the Leicester Square Odeon in London for ’4Entrepreneurs’, alongside Ruth Badger and Levi Roots, and at the Ministry of Justice Women’s Issues Network (WIN) and Brilliant Women conference alongside Patricia Janet Scotland, Baroness Scotland of Asthal and Margaret Mountford.
In 2009 Samata published two successful business guide books, ‘Fashioning Your Life: Volumes 1 & 2′ for emerging designers which sold on out on Amazon and Waterstones, providing advice in areas such as marketing, promoting, manufacturing, setting up, money management and design copyright. Samata has now secured a published deal for her third book through Bloomsbury Publishing, to be released in 2012.
Samata Angel was invited to No.10 Downing Street in October 2009 in acknowledgment of her work within the fashion industry. As of February 2010 Samata became an ambassador for the exclusive Transatlantic Network 2020, a sustainable, multilateral network that engages with future leaders from North America, the UK, and the rest of Europe to collaboratively address global issues. In November 2010 Samata was named in the Black Women in Europe: Power List 2010.On February 13, 2011 was announced as the winner of Suzy Amis Cameron’s Red Carpet Green Dress contest and has since gone on to become the Global Campaign Director for the campaign.
In 2011 Samata Angel was listed as one Red Magazine’s ‘One to Watch: Top 20 women under the age of 30′ and was invited to address the Prime Minister David Cameron, Peter Jones (entrepreneur), Doug Richard and an audience of MP’s, entrepreneurs and media at the launch of StartUp Britain.
