Ubuntu Finale!

Ubuntu International Project is aimed at developing, promoting and exporting a new South African design-led aesthetic, the Ubuntu International brand, that fuses the techniques and traditions of the South African Crafts Industry with South African contemporary fashion and accessories.

Following the success of last years debut showcase of three South African designers – this season Ubuntu International Project will be throwing a wider net by introducing modern  heritage aesthetics from South Africa, Uganda and Nigeria.“The cornerstone of the 2nd Ubuntu showcase will be the 3 Rs so aptly embodied and coined by Jose Hendo “Reduce Re use Re cycle. See designers below:

Clinton Lotter:

Focusing on patent croc-skin panelling, spun-web bodices, sheath dresses and female suits. This assemblage featured black, white, maroon and blue pieces, the most fascinating thing about the runway show at Clinton Lotter must’ve been cropped gloves, we also had our hearts captured by the deep plunging neckline midi-length number owing to the fabric choice of that looked similar to a cluster of stars.

Jose Hendo:

Unveiling her Resonance collection, the couturier made use of bark-cloth, a UNESCO-recognised process dating back to the 15th century, famous for  its use by ancient Ugandan Kings. Choosing vibrant colors, the collection had an avant-garde feel to it.

Ayo Van Elmar:

Prints, Stripes and Geometric patterns at Ayo Van Elmar’s show; an interesting array of dress coats which appeared to have to been made out of traditional West African fabrics, the marrying of alternate prints was fascinating, daring color choices considering it was assembled for the A/W season. In all, a very modern and feminine collection! The models at the show all had African Man-Hats – Cute!

House of J’ola:

Effective use of prints & patterns.

Studio 24:

Zohi Taglit:

Wax Prints tailored into chic pieces.
